Field Notes | Experiencing Real Cooling on the Sailing Course

This August, TechTee joined the 2026 Canadian Optimist Championships, hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club (RVYC).

The national sailing event brought together young sailors, coaches, volunteers and families from across the country. Over several consecutive days, sailors trained and competed under direct sunlight and intense heat reflected from the water, while coaches and volunteers also spent long hours working outdoors. It was one of the most authentic environments in which to test functional apparel.

During the event, TechTee provided products for coaches, volunteers and young sailors. Of all our products, the Cooling Tee received the strongest response.

The first thing people noticed was the fabric.

Made from a lightweight, smooth and flexible nylon-blend fabric, the Cooling Tee delivers an immediate cooling sensation when it touches the skin. It also feels soft, breathable and comfortable throughout the day. Whether worn while working along the shore or training and competing in hot weather, it helps reduce the heavy, sticky feeling of a regular T-shirt and keeps the wearer feeling cooler and more comfortable.

Many coaches and volunteers were highly impressed by the comfort and cooling effect of the Cooling Tee. What surprised us even more was how much the young sailors liked it.

Many of them asked whether we offered smaller sizes, and several families placed advance orders during the event.

Our original size range was designed mainly for adults, but this sailing competition revealed a clear and genuine need: for young athletes who spend long hours training and competing under the sun, a lightweight, comfortable T-shirt with a noticeable cooling effect can make a real difference.

Based directly on the feedback we received at the event, we decided to add XS to our size range so that more young athletes can experience the Cooling Tee in a size that fits them properly.

For TechTee, the RVYC sailing event was more than a brand activation. It was a real-world test of our product in an environment defined by heat, sunlight and physical activity.
